Webinar: Building Mapping – Identifying Vacancy for Rural Development

How can rural regions identify and activate their empty buildings for culture, creative work, and community life? This webinar dives into practical building mapping: why to map, who to involve, what data to gather, and how to turn maps into decisions on stewardship, reuse, and investment.

Designed for Local Action Groups (LAGs), municipalities, researchers, the session blends short talks with concrete tools and examples. We will cover stakeholder engagement, qualitative and quantitative data, simple workflows, and pathways to scale mapping from a pilot to a regional approach.

Dario Marmo is Project Manager and Partner at LAMA Impresa Sociale. He has 18 years of experience in designing and implementing participatory processes and engaging people and organizations at national and international level. He has gained experience in managing various international cooperation projects and European projects. His main areas of interest are social and urban innovation, temporary uses in urban regeneration, and local development initiatives based on participation and culture.

Lucas Counter is the project and product manager of Raumsonde an digital mapping tool for cultural eventspaces in Berlin: ‘The map can help you find a suitable location for your event. Select the parameters important for determining a good location, and the tool will show suitable spaces on the map. For example, you can see different district boundaries, public transport connections, the distance to the closest residential area (in case you want to make some noise), the location of public toilets or waste bins, as well as protected areas and different categories of space. These can be displayed over a classic map or a satellite image’. How can we learn from the design of such a map for our rural areas? He also serves on the board of directors of the Kollektiv Spieltrieb e.V. and is a founding member of the Space of Urgency initiative.
