The Netherlands

A new life for a 400 year old watermill in The Netherlands

You can find this old watermill in the idyllic and one of the only non-artificial nature areas of The Netherlands, The Veluwe. The main building, where the wooden mill is located, is still in good shape and has been recently renovated. Next to the main building, you can find two old barns where asbestos was found, necessitating the demolition and reconstruction of the roofs and other parts. The premises are surrounded by lush greenery, with old trees, a bamboo forest, and a small lake. Doesn’t this sound like a dream? Rural Radicals has been asked to envision the re-use of this location.

Through stakeholder analysis, partnership research, and possible activity analysis in collaboration with the architect and environmental permit agency Mees & Milieu, we aim to find the sweet spot that will make Watermolen De Rakhorst a place for the local community, arts & crafts, and various types of events. For partnerships we are looking for collaboration with educational institutes, local farmers and creative industry actors. If you would like more information about this project, please contact us.
